Korongee Dementia Village Architect Appointed

One of Australia’s best known senior living industry architectural firms has won the tender to design Korongee Dementia Village. From the 16 architectural firms who submitted an expression of interest, Thomson Adsett, has been selected as the project architects for Korongee Village.

Thomson Adsett are one of Australia’s best-known seniors living industry architectural specialists, recently taking out the top position in Building Design’s World Architecture 100 in the global elderly living sector for 2017.  The firm has directed over 1,000 projects in Australia and internationally and brings 30 years of local and global experience to the Korongee project.

Glenview’s selection criteria included dementia and aged care design experience and demonstrated success in innovative residential care and small-scale neighbourhood design.  After an extensive application process, Thomson Adsett’s strong working knowledge of dementia care design and future trends in international markets made them a standout choice to receive the tender.

To ensure an appreciation of the unique Tasmanian environment Thomson Adsett, a mainland based firm, have engaged the services of a local architect who has been studying dementia design as well as a Tasmanian subject matter expert.

The Korongee project is a partnership between Glenview, HESTA and Social Ventures Australia and is being built with the assistance of the Commonwealth Government.  The village structure will be based on a typical Tasmanian streetscape that allows residents to feel at home and wander freely within a safe and supported environment.
