Room Pricing Information

There are three categories for accommodation with aged care providers and the pricing for each category is outlined below. To determine which category a person falls into, they should submit an assets and income assessment to Department of Human Services (DHS). The Government will then advise the person of their assessment and which category that person falls into.
The amount you can be asked to pay for your accommodation will be based on your income and assets, and will be one of the following:

  • No accommodation costs: if your income and assets are below a certain amount, the Australian Government will pay your accommodation costs.

As a guide, the current threshold for this category is $46,000 in assessable assets and $25,265 in assessable income.

  • An accommodation contribution: if your assets and income are under a higher threshold you will be asked to contribute to the costs of your accommodation, and the Australian Government will pay the rest.

As a guide, the current threshold for this category is $157,000 in assessable assets and $25,265 in assessable income OR $46,000 in assessable assets and $64,132 in assessable income.

  • An accommodation payment: if your assets and income are above the thresholds listed in point 2 above, you will be asked to pay for the full cost of your accommodation.
