Glenorchy aged care provider Glenview Community Services has taken out the top award in the Aged and Community Services Tasmania Awards held at the Henry Jones art hotel in Hobart last month. Glenview, a not for profit organisation based in Glenorchy, Southern Tasmania has been providing services to the community for over 65 years, won the prestigious Aged Care Organisation of the Year award. Registered Nurse Ellie OBrien won the Training and Education category alongside Deputy CEO Angela McKenzie who was Highly Commended in the Aged Care Professional of the Year category.
Glenview CEO Lucy OFlaherty is thrilled with the success of the organisation at this years awards and said This is a tremendous recognition of the hard work and dedication of all of the staff and volunteers at Glenview.
She congratulated Registered Nurse Ellie OBrien saying Ellie is a shining example of the career path that nursing in aged care can offer. As an RN, Ellie has successfully completed her Transition to Practice and is now mentoring others in that program as well as taking on further study through UTAS to achieve a Graduate Diploma in Aged Care.
The awards, presented by the sectors peak body Aged and Community Services Tasmania are more feathers in the cap for Glenview, who this year also took out a national Better Practise Award from the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency.
Glenview was commended for their state of the art facilities and staff who show dedication to ensuring residents lead a dignified life with independence and freedom.
Aged and Community Services Tasmania CEO Darren Matthewson said energy and commitment were reflected in the 2013 awards.
These Awards really highlight the importance of recognising organisations, individuals, volunteers and community groups who devote their time to the care of older Tasmanians, he said.
Many people working in the aged care and services sector dont realise how extraordinary their efforts and achievements are, and its vital that we continue to promote and reward excellence in our sector.
